
This year the Lancashire Healthy Schools annual conference was organised in each of our three PCT footprints of North, Central and East Lancashire. More than 170 delegates attended one of the 3 workshops focusing on the Healthy Schools Enhancement Model and visited a Market place of partner agencies.

For schools that have held National Healthy School Status for 3 years or more, or have begun their Annual Review, you are invited to join the Annual Review Cluster meetings (one per district).
The letter of invitation and click form will be posted on the Schools Portal in early September.

The ninth British Food Fortnight takes place from 18 September to 3 October 2010 during Harvest Festival, the traditional time for celebrating our food. We hope that you enjoy putting the Ooo back into food during British Food Fortnight!

This year’s Global Children’s Challenge will be host to 100,000 primary school children from over 80 countries around the world, all walking their way to a healthier future. Starting on the 29th September 2010 and running for 8 weeks (until the 17th November 2010), children will record their daily activity levels using a GCC pedometer (provided to the classes at no cost). Teachers and Children can track their daily progress around the world on the GCC award winning website – www.gccjunior.org.
Students from any school in the country are invited to present their ideas for reducing waste to help save resources and our environment. Their ideas will be judged by a panel of green dragons - some of the Biggest names in climate change.
The winning teams and their teacher(s) will be asked to be a part of taking their WOW idea into production nationwide. The winning school will have a complimentary powerPerfector unit installed by the awards sponsor, enabling the school to potentially reduce their energy usage by up to 20% !

The School Food Trust are inviting

This is a five-year, Lottery-funded programme to set up a national network, initially of 5,000 school-based cooking clubs for children and their families. Let's Get Cooking involves running cooking clubs to teach new cooking skills to children, families and the wider community and to hold food activities at school and community events. They provide lots of ideas and resources to help you do this and offer a flexible approach.
Your school is invited to apply but places are limited, so act quickly! An invitation pack will be sent to each Head Teacher to arrive in school on the week of 19 April. Please make sure you look out for this as all the sign up information that you need will be inside.

As you know, the lunchtime experience for young people is part of the Million Meals challenges. The School Food Trust is about to launch a 'Canteen Rescue' competition where you can win a re-designed canteen for your pupils. The candidates had £1.25 to spend and had to produce a main course and a sweet, suitable for primary school children within an hour and a half. Their recipes had to be able to be replicated in large scale, and had to adhere with the Governments food based standards for school food.

The Youth Council is all about making sure young people (13- 19 years) are listened to and get their voices heard by the people who make the decisions about their lives; in their school; their community; their county and their country. We also make sure that money is spent on services and activities that they want and need.
